The United Diplomatic Council (UDC) successfully concluded its 6th global discussion in Abu Dhabi, marking another milestone in its growing series of international dialogues dedicated to strengthening global partnerships and promoting purposeful diplomatic engagement.
This high-level gathering brought together Ambassadors, diplomats, policymakers, and business leaders for a dynamic exchange centred on Energy Diplomacy and Climate Diplomacy — two critical pillars driving today’s global sustainability agenda and economic transformation.
Building upon earlier deliberations held in Brussels, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and two previous editions in Abu Dhabi, the UDC continues to position itself as a global platform where diplomacy meets enterprise, and conversations translate into actionable partnerships for shared progress.
A highlight of the session was the address by His Excellency T.P. Seetharam IFS, Former Ambassador of India to the UAE, who reflected on the energy initiatives undertaken during his tenure and their long-term outcomes. He shared how those early collaborations in renewable energy and hydrocarbons paved the way for the enduring strength of the India–UAE partnership in energy and sustainability. His insights demonstrated how proactive diplomatic engagement can create a legacy of cooperation that continues to shape economic relations years later.
His Excellency Lovemore Mazemo, Ambassador of Zimbabwe to the UAE, also shared valuable perspectives on the ongoing efforts to build robust energy and economic partnerships between the UAE and Zimbabwe. He emphasized Africa’s growing potential as a renewable energy hub and the vital importance of cooperation with Gulf countries in areas such as sustainable energy, technological innovation, and trade integration.
The session also featured several experts and thought leaders who expanded the dialogue into new dimensions, including Ocean Diplomacy, Trade Diplomacy, and Technology Diplomacy. These discussions underscored how the energy narrative is rapidly evolving to include blue economy initiatives, digital trade solutions, and clean technology collaboration — each playing a strategic role in advancing global sustainability goals.

Mr. Ankit Jain, Honorary Trade Commissioner for India EU Trade Council provided an in-depth perspective on the emerging opportunities between the UAE and the European Union (EU) in the spheres of energy transition, green innovation, and climate resilience. He highlighted how both regions are ideally positioned to collaborate on renewable energy investments, technology transfer, and research initiatives that align with their shared vision for a sustainable future.
Adding a broader perspective to the day’s discussions, Dr. Asif Iqbal, President of the Indian Economic Trade Organization and one of the principal architects behind the UDC initiative, brought all the elements of the dialogue together. He emphasized how platforms like UDC serve as catalysts for building understanding among nations, bridging diplomatic priorities with real-world economic outcomes. Dr. Iqbal also outlined UDC’s upcoming plans to hold similar thematic discussions across various forms of diplomacy — including Water Diplomacy, Food Diplomacy, Health Diplomacy, and Technology Diplomacy — reaffirming UDC’s role as a forward-looking and multidimensional global dialogue platform.
Throughout the session, participants collectively agreed that energy and climate diplomacy are no longer optional discussions but vital strategies for ensuring global stability, equitable growth, and environmental stewardship. The conversation underscored the urgency of translating diplomatic goodwill into sustainable action through innovation, trade, and cross-border cooperation.
With this sixth successful session, the United Diplomatic Council continues to strengthen its position as a neutral and inclusive platform that unites policymakers, diplomats, and business leaders. By facilitating thoughtful dialogue and encouraging collaborative partnerships, UDC remains committed to shaping a more sustainable, interconnected, and climate-conscious world.
