Historic Hotel Recognised Among World’s Most Outstanding Properties
Hong Kong : The Murray, Hong Kong, a Niccolo Hotel has been awarded the prestigious One MICHELIN Key in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide Hotel Selection. This distinguished recognition places The Murray amongst the industry leaders, and an elite group of hotels worldwide celebrated for offering exceptional guest experiences.
The MICHELIN Keys represent a new landmark for travellers, with the MICHELIN Guide evaluating thousands of hotels across the globe based on five key criteria: the hotel is an open door to the destination; excellence in interior design and architecture; quality and consistency in service, comfort and maintenance; consistency between the level of experience and the price paid; and individuality, reflecting personality and authenticity. The One MICHELIN Key designation identifies properties that are “a true gem with personality” where “service always goes the extra mile.”
The MICHELIN Guide itself noted, “It’s rare that a brand new hotel rockets straight to the top of Hong Kong’s hospitality scene, and rarer still, for obvious reasons, that it’s converted from a late-Sixties landmark government building by the eminent London-based architects Foster + Partners … The Murray’s 336 rooms and suites are, on average, the largest in Hong Kong, and they’re provided with state-of-the-art luxuries and stylish contemporary furnishings.”
Complementing the hotel’s acclaimed accommodation, The Murray features an exceptional collection of dining establishments that reflect MICHELIN-quality culinary standards. Guests can enjoy authentic Italian dishes at rooftop restaurant and bar Popinjays, bistro-inspired menu at The Tai Pan, sophisticated afternoon tea and Asian delights at Garden Lounge, and specialty cocktails at Murray Lane, along with modern Chinese cuisine at MIAN. Each restaurant showcases the hotel’s commitment to culinary excellence and memorable dining experiences.
“We are honoured to receive this recognition from the MICHELIN Guide,” said Mr. Dean Dimitriou, the General Manager of The Murray, Hong Kong. “This achievement celebrates our commitment to preserving heritage while delivering contemporary luxury. It is a reflection of our entire team’s dedication to creating unforgettable experiences for our guests. Being recognised among the world’s finest hotels in this inaugural selection is a testament to our unique position in Hong Kong’s hospitality landscape.”
The Murray stands as a cornerstone of the Hong Kong SAR Government’s “Conserving Central” initiative, having transformed the historic Murray Building into a contemporary luxury sanctuary. The hotel’s distinctive architectural heritage, combined with its modern amenities and exceptional service, has established it as a beloved landmark in the city’s central business district.
The MICHELIN Key selection process involved rigorous evaluation of over 6,000 hotels worldwide, with the MICHELIN Guide’s anonymous inspectors assessing each property based on the same exacting standards applied to MICHELIN Star restaurants. The Keys are designed to help travellers identify hotels offering the most outstanding stays, mirroring the authority of the MICHELIN Star system for dining establishments.
