Riyadh : His Excellency the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Ahmed bin Aqeel Al-Khatib, has embarked on a journey along the Northern Tourism Trail as part of the “Saudi Winter” program, showcasing the diverse tourism offerings across the Kingdom. The route begins in Riyadh and traverses several natural and heritage destinations before concluding in the Hail region.

The journey commenced in Thadiq Governorate, where the Minister visited notable environmental and tourist sites, including the Ghamra Tourist Village and the Geopark located north of Riyadh. The Geopark is distinguished by its stunning rock formations and natural valleys, reflecting the Kingdom’s geological heritage, while also promoting sustainable tourism and scientific education. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is overseen by the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification. Al-Khatib also explored the heritage village of Thadiq, characterized by its historic mud-brick structures, ancient alleyways, traditional markets, and mosques that embody authentic Najdi identity.

Continuing the tour into the Qassim region, the Minister engaged with rural farms and agricultural tourism sites. He visited the Al-Bustan shrine in Buraidah, a prime example of rural tourism, and the Qassim Cultural Heritage Center, which is increasingly attracting both domestic and international visitors.

The journey concluded in the Hail region, where Al-Khatib highlighted the area’s historical and mountainous features through a visit to Jabal Umm Sinman in Jubbah, another UNESCO World Heritage Site boasting rock carvings over ten thousand years old. The tour also included exploring hiking trails in the Aja Mountains, desert adventures, visiting the historical homes of Hatim al-Tai, the Al-Didhan Reserve, and enjoying various activities at Al-Adham Park.

The Northern Tourism Route, stretching from Riyadh to Hail and passing through Thadiq, Al-Qassim, and several other governorates, serves as a comprehensive model of the Kingdom’s natural and cultural diversity, offering visitors a chance to explore multiple attractions as part of the “Saudi Winter” program.
