Beautiful homemade petit fours, cakes and biscuits now served at a stylish contemporary cafe
and boutique in Mirdif Avenue Mall in Dubai
Female entrepreneur Khatereh Ebrahimi brings family tradition and modern
elegance together in sweet harmony
Traditional family recipes passed down through a family for three generations are the beautiful bedrock of Kâdo, an elegant cafe and sweets boutique in Dubai.
Inspired by nostalgia, tastes of childhood, and family, Kâdo specialises in exquisitely crafted Persian inspired petit fours, cakes and biscuits that add a contemporary and international touch to tried and trusted recipes beloved for generations.
Kâdo was created by Khatereh Ebrahimi, who used to watch her aunt Leila Ebrahimi bake petit fours in her grandmother’s kitchen as a child. These traditional recipes have been modernised and expanded on for today’s sophisticated palate but still retain the unmistakable flavours that transport customers back to a bygone era.
Lovingly homemade with the finest ingredients Kâdo remains a business deeply rooted in family and is led by a talented team of co-creatives including Khatereh head of design, her aunt who remains at the heart of the kitchen to ensure the highest standards of baking are being maintained, as well Kâdo’s head pastry chef who brings years of culinary expertise coming from One&Only and Four Seasons. Kâdo’s extensive range of sweet delights come in luxurious gift boxes and trays making a memorable present for loved ones. Ebrahimi explains, “I wanted the brand to embody a certain sophistication and elegance with sweets presented like treasured heirlooms.”
As well as petit fours, cakes and biscuits, Kâdo also offers an elevated cafe space where guests can enjoy their petit fours with hot and cold drinks such as the signature sparkling rosewater that pays homage to Persian poetry. For Khatereh, it was crucial that the interior design of Kâdo at Mirdif Avenue Mall in Dubai reflect the elegance of both the menu and the packaging such as a lighting fixture inspired by the unraveling of a ribbon from a gift box.
Khatereh adds “I didn’t want stereotypical Persian design, I wanted more subtle elements like the green onyx that comes from Iran,” she explains. “The sweet display incorporates Persian mirror work and cases are custom made to present petit fours like jewellery.” Arches on the windows, doors, and chairs echo the Iranian architectural style of tagh behesht, which translates as ‘roof of heaven’. In a deeply personal touch, bookshelves display objects from the home of Khatereh’s grandmother, plus other trinkets and collectable books given by friends and family who have come to visit the store.
Initially launched in Khatereh’s grandmother’s home kitchen, Kâdo’s reputation quickly spread thanks to exceptional word of mouth with VIPs, and dignitaries among its loyal following. Kâdo cafe opened in Mirdif and throughout the journey, Khatereh has purposefully collaborated with a number of talented women. “I wanted a woman’s touch in the creative process,” she says. “Women such as Sadaf Safi, the founder of Octo Interiors who designed the space. The furniture was designed and made by Newsha Dastaviz and Dana Almatrook at The Line Concept, while our tea suppliers Unitea Heidi and Yasmin Nikam are a mother and daughter duo.”
Kâdo celebrates Persian traditions both past and present while inviting customers to take a trip down memory lane. “At Kâdo we embrace the deep-rooted tradition of togetherness,” smiles Khatereh. “Kâdo means ‘gift’ in Farsi and French, something that is given as an expression of love, respect and hospitality.”
