AlUla : Heritage and innovation will combine in stunning fashion at AlUla’s Ancient Kingdoms Festival this winter, celebrating 7,000 years of human history through immersive storytelling, technology and creativity.
Starting 20 November and running until 6 December, this year’s Ancient Kingdoms Festival is held under the theme of Journeys Through Time and invites visitors to rediscover the ancient civilisations that once thrived in AlUla.
The Ancient Kingdoms Festival has earned a reputation for reimagining history through innovative storytelling, and this year is no different as history is brought to life in a series of creative experiences.
This fusion of archaeological discovery and cutting-edge technology will be on full display at the spectacular Hegra Drone Show – Stories from the Sky (20–29 November).
Winner of Best Entertainment Production at the 2025 Saudi Event Awards, this exclusive live show is a breathtaking blend of projection, sound, and synchronised drone choreography.
It is an awe-inspiring display and a perfect example of how the Ancient Kingdoms Festival continues to reinterpret historical discovery for modern audiences while demonstrating that innovation is as much about creative approach as technology.
The Old Town Escape House Experience follows the same thread and again reimagines what innovation and heritage mean at the Ancient Kingdoms Festival. Set in an 11-room, restored mud brick heritage house, which was once thought to have been an apothecary, guests will unlock AlUla’s folk tales while solving puzzles, clues, and mysteries hidden within the immersive escape room. Inspired by community research and the oral traditions of AlUla, it invites visitors into stories shaped by those who have inherited them for generations.
“AlUla is alive with incredible history and cultural heritage that the Ancient Kingdoms Festival brings to life with immersive experiences unlike anything else,” said Rami Al Mouallim, Vice President of Destination Management at the Royal Commission for AlUla.
“As the festival continues to grow and share these incredible stories, traditions and history with thousand of visitors each year, we continue to push boundaries and explore ways that technology and modern storytelling techniques can capture the essence of the ancient civilisations that once called AlUla home and bring them life in the modern age to inspire a new generation.”
While the Ancient Kingdoms Festival officially runs until 6 December 2025, several popular experiences will continue beyond the festival period, including Hegra After Dark, Ikmah After Dark, The Incense Road Experience and the Old Town Escape House Experience. This is to ensure that the spirit of Journeys Through Time extends well into the winter season.
