The Cove Rotana Resort Appoints Karim El Ghandour as Director of Human Resources

The Cove Rotana Resort Ras Al Khaimah has appointed Karim El Ghandour as its new Director of Human Resources, reinforcing the resort’s focus on colleague development, workplace culture and long-term business growth.

El Ghandour brings more than 25 years of hospitality and human resources leadership experience across the Middle East and Africa. In his new position, he will lead the resort’s human resources strategy, with responsibilities spanning colleague engagement, talent development, performance management and organisational effectiveness.

The appointment reflects the importance of people and workplace culture in delivering consistent hospitality experiences. By strengthening its approach to talent management and colleague development, The Cove Rotana Resort aims to support its teams while aligning its people strategy with the property’s wider business objectives.

The Cove Rotana Resort Strengthens Its Leadership Team

As Director of Human Resources, El Ghandour will oversee the resort’s HR function, drawing on extensive experience in talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, compliance, leadership development and workforce optimisation.

His responsibilities will include supporting the development of colleagues, strengthening employee engagement and fostering a workplace culture that enables teams to perform effectively. These areas are particularly important in hospitality, where employees play a central role in shaping guest experiences and maintaining service standards.

The Cove Rotana Resort’s appointment also highlights the connection between colleague wellbeing, professional development and operational performance. A strong HR strategy can help hospitality businesses attract and retain talent, develop future leaders and create a supportive environment for employees across departments.

El Ghandour’s combination of operational and human resources experience is expected to inform his approach to these priorities, helping connect people management with the practical requirements of running a hotel.

More Than 25 Years of Hospitality and HR Experience

El Ghandour joins The Cove Rotana Resort following an extensive career in hospitality, including more than 15 years with IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Most recently, he served as Cluster Director of Human Resources in Kuwait, where he led the HR function across a group of properties with a combined workforce of 800 colleagues. He also served as a member of the Executive Committee, contributing to leadership and organisational priorities across the cluster.

During his time with IHG, El Ghandour led the human resources pre-opening activities for InterContinental Kuwait, the group’s first luxury property in the country. Pre-opening work requires coordination across recruitment, workforce planning, training and operational readiness, making it an important part of hotel development and launch preparation.

This experience has given him exposure to both established hotel operations and the people-related requirements involved in bringing a new property into operation.

His background also includes work across different areas of hospitality, providing a broader understanding of how teams, service delivery and commercial objectives interact within hotel businesses.

From Hotel Operations to Human Resources Leadership

El Ghandour began his hospitality career in hotel operations, with early experience in front office and operational management. He later moved into training and development before progressing into senior human resources roles.

His career has also included convention and catering sales, as well as co-founding and managing a travel business. These experiences have exposed him to different aspects of the hospitality and travel sectors, from guest-facing operations to commercial activities and people management.

This varied professional background has shaped his approach to HR leadership, which combines an understanding of employees’ workplace needs with awareness of the operational realities of hotel performance.

For a resort such as The Cove Rotana Resort, this perspective can support closer alignment between HR initiatives and departmental requirements. Recruitment, training, leadership development and performance management all contribute to building teams capable of delivering the expected guest experience.

Focus on Colleague Engagement and Talent Development

In his new role, El Ghandour will focus on building a supportive workplace, developing talent and strengthening colleague engagement across the resort.

Commenting on his appointment, El Ghandour said he was pleased to join The Cove Rotana Resort Ras Al Khaimah and become part of the Rotana family. He emphasised the role that people and culture play in hotel success and expressed his intention to work closely with colleagues and the leadership team.

He also highlighted the importance of developing talent and ensuring that the resort’s people strategy contributes to its growth and performance.

These priorities reflect a wider operational challenge for hospitality businesses: maintaining service quality while supporting employees’ professional development. Structured training, effective performance management and leadership development can help teams build the skills required to meet guest expectations and adapt to changing business needs.

By focusing on these areas, The Cove Rotana Resort aims to continue developing a people-focused culture that supports both colleagues and the property’s long-term objectives.

Aligning People Strategy with Resort Performance

Human resources functions play an increasingly important role in connecting workforce planning with business performance. In a hotel environment, this includes attracting suitable candidates, retaining experienced employees, supporting career progression and ensuring that teams have the skills needed for their responsibilities.

El Ghandour’s experience across HR leadership, hotel operations and pre-opening activities provides a foundation for addressing these priorities at The Cove Rotana Resort. His previous responsibility for a workforce of 800 colleagues across multiple properties also offers experience in managing HR requirements across a complex hospitality operation.

At the resort, his remit will include aligning people initiatives with organisational goals while supporting a workplace culture built around engagement, development and performance.

The appointment reinforces The Cove Rotana Resort Ras Al Khaimah’s emphasis on its colleagues as an important part of its hospitality offering. As El Ghandour takes on the role of Director of Human Resources, his focus will be on developing talent, supporting high-performing teams and ensuring that people management remains connected to the resort’s continued growth.
