Strengthening UK-Saudi culinary ties: ‘Taste of the UK’ event highlights growing trade relationship

Under the patronage of His Majesty’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, the British Embassy hosted an exclusive ‘Taste of the UK’ event, showcasing a vibrant array of premium British food and drink products now available in Saudi Arabia. The event marked a significant milestone in the growing trade relationship between the UK and Saudi Arabia, particularly within the flourishing food and beverage sector.
The Saudi market for imported food and beverages is experiencing unprecedented growth, driven by a rising demand for high-quality, organic, and gourmet products. Consumption in this sector is expected to exceed $27 billion, creating exciting opportunities for British brands to meet Saudi Arabia’s growing appetite for diverse and innovative products.

The evening brought together leading industry figures, trade partners, and prominent media representatives to celebrate the dynamic culinary offerings from the UK. Guests were invited to explore the rich diversity of British cuisine, with a wide selection of iconic products all around the United Kingdom. A specially curated culinary map guided attendees through the highlights of each region, featuring standout products such as Scottish salmon, Welsh lamb, Northern Irish oats, and English cheeses.

In his opening remarks, His Majesty’s Ambassador reinforced the UK’s commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable food and drink to Saudi consumers. He commented, “This event celebrates not only the diversity and excellence of British food and drink, but also the strengthening cultural and trade connections between our two nations. We are proud to see British products gaining popularity in Saudi Arabia, offering local consumers a taste of the UK’s finest.”

Guests were also treated to a unique twist on classic British dishes, incorporating Saudi flavours to highlight the adaptability of British products to local tastes. The evening perfectly demonstrated the synergy between both nations’ culinary traditions, underscoring the UK’s versatility and creativity in food innovation.

A key sponsor of the event was leading retailer Spinneys, which has been instrumental in bringing British products to the Saudi market. After opening its first store in Riyadh at La Strada Yard, Spinneys has committed to further expansion across the Kingdom by 2028, with more stores set to follow. Known for its premium fresh food selection, Spinneys has positioned itself as a strong advocate for British produce in Saudi Arabia.

Warwick Gird, General Marketing Manager at Spinneys, said, “We are delighted to support the UK Government’s efforts to promote UK food and drink. Our customers in Saudi Arabia and the wider region seek out the best in quality and innovation, and we are proud to offer them an extensive range of UK products.
