Global Project Excellence Awards to recognize individuals
Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,-: The second edition of the Global Project Management Forum (GPMF), slated on June 12 to 13, 2023 at Fairmont Hotel in Riyadh, will host extensive dialogues on project management best practices as well as exchanges of views on the latest developments to further improve the business environment, confront the challenges, and promote economic growth in the sector.
GPMF 2023 will revolve around the theme “Project Management Ecosystem: The Journey to Excellence” and is set to attract more than 1,000 regional and international participants. The two-day comprehensive forum will feature discussions on the latest and future trends in project management and its role in strengthening the global sustainability system through fostering seven key topics such as Ways of Working & Value-Chain, Digital Transformation & Execution Technologies, Economics, Sustainable Social Impact, Business Acumen & Governance, Power Skills, and Giga Projects, among many others.
Engineer Badr M. Burshaid, President of Project Management Institute-Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Chapter (PMI-KSA) and Chairman of GPMF, said: “Project management offices represent the foundation of modern institutions and the effective management of their major projects. It is our aim in the Institute to organize events and forums that contribute to the progress of project management throughout the Kingdom, spreading its culture, and promoting distinguished practices by empowering project management practitioners and providing them with the knowledge, resources and tools required to excel in the profession according to the best global standards.”
He noted that GPMF’s theme this year aligns with the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 in boosting the global sustainability system and also to reflect the Forum’s purpose of consolidating sustainability concepts and practices in the project management ecosystem and raising further awareness of its importance to achieve increased productivity and efficiency.
The event gathers leading speakers from around the world including CEOs, Project Managers, Government Officials, Strategy Directors, Project Management Consultants, Developers, Project Management Office Managers, Technology Providers, Engineering, Procurement and Construction Companies, Infrastructure Companies, Startups, Entrepreneurs, and Semi-Governmental Organizations.

The PMI-KSA has also organized the Global Project Excellence Awards on the sidelines of the Forum during which the winners for the Individual Awards category will be announced. The Awards is based on the best international standards of excellence and innovation in project management, and entries will be subject to a completely transparent and highly accurate selection process by a specialized committee of leading industry experts.
The 5 Stages of Successful Project Management
Project management is defined as the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet the project requirements. It is divided into five phases – Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring and Control, and Closure. The project management process begins with the project conceptualization and feasibility assessment. Once done, the planning stage comes next. This is when a project roadmap is formulated and the project objectives, tasks, roles, team members, timeline, and risks are identified. In the implementation phase, the steps necessary to complete the project are carried out by allocating resources, executing plans, and amending them accordingly when the need arises. Progress and performance are then measured by defining a set of key performance indicators within the monitoring and control stage. When the project is finally completed, managers will then hold a closing meeting to assess the outcomes and determine the lessons learned and the areas of improvement for future projects.
The PMI-KSA is the local chapter chartered by the Project Management Institute and is under the laws of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as an independent and non-profit organization licensed by the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation.
