JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA-– The E1 Jeddah GP begins the second season of the UIM E1 World Championship presented by PIF this weekend and the event is already making a big splash with lucky local schoolchildren.
Some 120 children from the Al Furat International School in Jeddah enjoyed an exclusive day behind the scenes at the E1 Jeddah GP on Tuesday, which included photographed meet-and-greets, Q&As and autograph sessions with pilots – and a boat trip.
The children also had a shot at doing some of the super-fast reaction tests and physical endurance exercises undertaken by the elite E1 pilots, who participate in the world’s only all-electric raceboat championship.
Ammar Raed Fahad, an 11-year-old Saudi Arabian from Jeddah, said: “I enjoyed getting signatures and meeting the pilots and how they celebrated when they were with us… and getting ice cream! But getting signatures was better than the ice cream. It has been so nice, an unforgettable moment. I like how fast the boats go and how they look.”
Ammar agreed with Team Brady pilot Sam Coleman, the current E1 Champion of the Water alongside team-mate Emma Kimilainen, who told the kids the key to success was “teamwork, working hard at school and being kind to one another”.
Adam El Okaby, a 10-year-old Egyptian living in Jeddah, said: “I enjoyed meeting famous people. It’s been so fun coming here. When I grow up, I’m going to tell my grandkids ‘these are the signatures I got from famous people that drove in the water’.”
Presented in partnership between E1, the Saudi Ministry of Sport, and the Saudi Water Sports and Diving Federation, qualifying for the E1 Jeddah GP takes place on Friday on the beautiful waters of the Red Sea. The main race is on Saturday January 25 and begins at 4pm local time.
E1 features top teams owned by some of the best-known celebrities in the world such as Tom Brady, Will Smith, Didier Drogba, Rafael Nadal, Steve Aoki, Marc Anthony, Virat Kohli, and Marcelo Claure. Teams feature two pilots – one male, one female – powering futuristic, all-electric RaceBirds and showcases elite sport while advocating sustainability in marine environments.
Having debuted in Jeddah during the inaugural UIM E1 World Championship presented by PIF last year, this season’s event in the city comes under the theme ‘Race for Change’. Following the Jeddah grand opening to the 2025 season, E1 races are then held at six different marine locations across the globe during the campaign.
