JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA (15 January 2025) – Ten days remain for Tom Brady, Will Smith, Didier Drogba, Virat Kohli and a host of star-name owners to super-tune their teams before this season’s electrifying UIM E1 World Championship presented by PIF begins with an exhilarating Jeddah GP.
The futuristic, all-electric RaceBird boats made waves on the stunningly beautiful Red Sea waters off Jeddah for the E1 Championship’s global debut in February 2024. It was where it all began for the 2024 Champions of the Water Team Brady but – with top teams starting at Jeddah Corniche for the first of the season’s races across multiple continents – will it be the same this year?
Qualifying for the E1 Jeddah GP take place on Friday 24 January 2025, followed by the main race at 16:00 KSA Time / 14:00 CET on Saturday 25 January 2025. Presented in partnership with the Saudi Ministry of Sport and the Saudi Water Sports and Diving Federation, E1 racing at the Jeddah Corniche ensures an electrifying, thrilling experience for participants and spectators.
Prince Sultan bin Fahd bin Salman, President of the Saudi Water Sports and Diving Federation, said: “For owners, pilots, organisers and fans, the countdown is on for the start of what will be a fascinating UIM E1 World Championship presented by PIF at the Jeddah GP. This is where relentless innovation, marine preservation, and exhilarating races all come together, unveiling a new season for the Championship. In such a spectacular setting, this popular event highlights Saudi Arabia’s commitment to pioneering sustainable sports and furthering its reputation as a global hub for innovation and eco-tourism.”
The Teams
The teams each feature male and female pilots sharing driving duties. They are owned by some of the best-known personalities worldwide including the aforementioned Hollywood star Smith (Westbrook Racing), as well as Marc Anthony (Team Miami powered by Magnus), and Steve Aoki (Racing Team Aoki) from the world of entertainment. From sport, Brady (Team Brady), Kohli (Team Blue Rising) and Drogba (Team Drogba) are joined by Rafael Nadal (Team Rafa), while Marcelo Claure (Team Brazil by Claure) brings his expertise from the world of entrepreneurship.
The UIM E1 World Championship presented by PIF, the world’s only all-electric raceboat championship, transcends traditional racing, championing a vision of revolutionising marine transport, with the introduction of charging points at race venues marking a shift towards greener marine practices.
In its first season, E1 raced at some of the world’s most famous and glamorous locations, incuding Venice, Monaco, Puerto Banus and Lake Como. The inaugural season wrapped up with Team Brady being crowned Champions of the Water ahead of Westbrook Racing and Team Miami powered by Magnus.
With Saudi Arabia once again hosting the opening race of the season, the Championship continues to demonstrate its deep ties to the Kingdom and its vision for sustainable sports development.
