LONG ISLAND CITY, NEW YORK – The vibrant spirit of Filipino Christmas came alive in New York City as the Philippine Department of Tourism-New York (PDOT-NY) successfully hosted Paskong Pinoy 2024, a two-day cultural celebration held at The Pond in Long Island City on December 14-15, 2024.

Now in its third year, Paskong Pinoy has grown into a beloved tradition, celebrating the warmth, unity, and joy of the Philippine Christmas season. Thousands of attendees—Filipino-Americans and locals alike—gathered to experience the richness of Filipino culture through activities that embodied the heart of the holiday.

“The spirit of Christmas in the Philippines shines brightest when shared,” said Philippine DOT Assistant Secretary for Branding and Marketing Communications Gissela Marie Quisumbing. “Through events like Paskong Pinoy, we showcase our vibrant traditions and our strong sense of community, reminding everyone that the Philippines is a home where love, laughter, and joy are always abundant.”

The festival brought together families and friends through cherished Filipino Christmas traditions. One of the highlights was the parol-making workshop, where children and adults crafted colorful ‘parols’—traditional star-shaped lanterns—that symbolize hope and light during the holiday season. Visitors enjoyed this hands-on activity while sharing stories and savoring classic Filipino snacks, fostering a sense of community and nostalgia.

The bazaar of Filipino handicrafts featured intricate handwoven textiles, artisanal home decor, and holiday ornaments, offering attendees a chance to bring a piece of Philippine craftsmanship into their homes. Vendors proudly showcased the artistry and creativity behind each handmade item, reinforcing the value of cultural heritage and supporting Filipino entrepreneurs.
Adding to the festive energy was the grill station serving iconic Filipino street food favorites such as pork and chicken barbecue, ‘isaw’ (grilled intestines), and vibrant red Filipino-style hotdogs. The mouthwatering aroma and smoky flavors transported festival goers straight to the bustling night markets of the Philippines.

The event’s success underscored the power of Filipino culture to bring people together, no matter where they are in the world. “Paskong Pinoy is more than just a festival; it is a celebration of love, community, and the spirit of togetherness that defines the Filipino holiday season,” said PDOT-NY Tourism Attaché Francisco Lardizabal. “Seeing families, friends, and even strangers come together to share in these traditions truly shows why the Filipino Christmas is unlike any other.”

Organized in collaboration with Philippine Fest, Paskong Pinoy not only celebrated Filipino heritage but also provided a platform for Filipino businesses and artisans to showcase their work. From delicious food to handcrafted goods, the event successfully bridged cultures while fostering a spirit of generosity and connection.
