Cairo: The Asian Tour has underscored its commitment to the development of golf in the destination countries that host its International Series countries, with a US$ 25,000 donation towards the Egyptian Golf Federation’s youth development program.
The EGF’s youth development programme introduces youngsters to the sport and also enables the country’s brightest golfing talent through a specific pathway of development which features coaching and a schedule of tournaments.
The donation was made on the sidelines of the International Series Egypt, the Asian Tour’s maiden tournament in the country which took place at the Madinaty Golf Club from November 10-13. Four promising young Egyptian players were in the field for the flagship tournament, further evidence of the work being undertaken by the EGF to grow the game in the country.
Cho Minn Thant, CEO and Commissioner of the Asian Tour, said: “Our International Series events are a wonderful opportunity for us to grow the game across the region. The tournaments serve our commitment well, by supporting grassroots golf wherever we go and by bringing top talent that generates interest and encourages sports fans to come out and enjoy the entertainment.
“Supporting the Egyptian Golf Federation in their efforts to grow the game among the younger generation is a win-win for all concerned.”
Ayman Hussain, president of the Egypt Golf Federation added: “We thank the Asian Tour for their generous donation. This important contribution helps us to further develop the game of golf at the grassroots level and to introduce more youngsters to this wonderful sport that can offer our society so much in terms of sporting integrity, community, health and fitness.”
Dr Ashraf Sobhy, Minister for Youth and Sports in Egypt, said: “By hosting the Asian Tour’s International Series Egypt tournament, the country has proved itself to be a world-class destination with the facilities and infrastructure that are appropriate for world-class sporting events and for professionals from all over the world. The tournament reflects the successful sports system we have in place under His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic.”
