Riyadh : As the historic mountains of AlUla embraced the colors of a captivating sunset, the world’s attention turned to this exceptional destination in recent weeks. AlUla hosted two world-class events that combined the prestige of “Sport of Kings” with the thrill of “Race of Trails,” solidifying its position as a global capital for high-quality events and sports.

On January 16 and 17, the sounds of horses’ neighing echoed through Al Fursan Equestrian Village during the latest edition of the AlUla Desert Polo Championship. This event transcended its status as a mere sporting competition, transforming into an artistic spectacle that brought together elite international polo players among AlUla’s stunning rock formations. The championship attracted a large international turnout, with fans enjoying an experience that blended elegance and sport. Guests donned sophisticated winter attire as they watched thrilling matches in a warm atmosphere surrounded by palm oases and natural landscapes. The unique AlUla venue became a stage for equestrianism, heritage, and elegance.

The championship was more than just sports; it offered luxurious hospitality, accompanying performances, and fine dining, cementing its role as a social and cultural event that reflects a modern lifestyle in harmony with AlUla’s historical spirit.

In parallel, AlUla is set to host the “AlUla Trails” event on January 22nd and 23rd, offering nature and adventure enthusiasts a chance to explore AlUla from a different perspective through hiking trails and exploratory experiences. This event will weave through mountains, valleys, and archaeological sites, blending sport, culture, and contemplation.

“AlUla Trails” will highlight the region’s natural and human heritage, with participants walking historical routes that once witnessed trade caravans and ancient civilizations, all within a framework that prioritizes sustainability and environmental protection.

The race options will vary in distance, catering to all participants, including children’s races, sunset trails, full marathons, and ultra-distance runs. Over two days, the event aims to bring together runners and fans from around the world, alongside recreational activities for the whole family.

With its UNESCO World Heritage sites, breathtaking landscapes, and advanced tourism infrastructure, AlUla’s events are part of a broader strategy to transform the region into a year-round global tourist destination. This strategy seeks to diversify events and attract visitors with varied interests, including sports enthusiasts, adventurers, and cultural travelers.

AlUla offers a unique blend of nature, history, culture, sports, and the arts, where stories unfold amidst the ancient rocks and the vibrancy of the present. The region is currently experiencing a surge in tourism, aligning with the “Saudi Winter” program launched by the Saudi Tourism Authority under the slogan “Winter in the Life.” This initiative includes eight key destinations—AlUla, Riyadh, Diriyah, Jeddah, the Red Sea, the Eastern Province, Qassim, and Hail—reflecting the Kingdom’s rich natural, climatic, and cultural diversity.
