This Ramadan, AlUla is set to host a diverse range of celebrations and activities for locals and visitors who want to spend the Holy Month in a remarkable setting steeped in culture, history, and natural beauty.
One of the most significant events for Muslims around the world, Ramadan is a time of reflection and togetherness. Staying true to these principles, AlUla promises to deliver memorable cultural experiences for all to enjoy.
Visitors will have access to a rich, two-week Ramadan program of events the highlight being an exploration of AlUla’s poetic history – in keeping with Saudi Arabia designating 2023 as the ‘Year of Arabic Poetry’. Witness poetry nights inspired by Samaritan poetry, one of AlUla’s most distinctive ancient folklore performances traditionally accompanied by musical instruments such as the Tar and the drum.
Other must-visit events from the Ramadan program, which is ongoing until April 6, include:
- Traditional Saudi Coffee Roasting in Old Town: Learn about the ancient tradition of roasting and crushing coffee beans along with delicate spices at workshops.
- Performances at Old Town: Watch the traditional drummer, known as Al Mesaharaty, revive the tradition where they would walk down the streets of the town before sunrise and wake people up for their Suhoor in time before Fajr prayers.
- AlManshiyah Gatherings: Come together for a community Suhoor gathering in a traditional setting in AlManshiyah. Visitors can experience traditional board games and children’s activities, which will include storytelling.
- Oasis Celebrations: Visit the relaxing Oasis to sample from a variety of traditional dishes from food stalls, set amid traditional seating, woven rugs, clay artefacts, ceramics, and lamps that evoke the spirit of life in the oasis.
From now until the end of Ramadan, visitors can also partake in delectable Iftar and Suhoor offerings tailored for every palate, immersive tours of ancient locations such as Hegra and Dadan, mesmerising stargazing experiences, trail walks and hikes, and a special film program shown at Cinema AlJadidah.
