Accor strengthens Egypt presence as deal inked for first Novotel in Alexandria

New hotel to become the focal point of upcoming orouba Skyline development in country’s second-largest city

Accor, a world-leading augmented hospitality group, is cementing its presence in Egypt after signing a management agreement with major real estate developer El Orouba Misr for a Novotel property in one of Alexandria’s prestigious new developments.

When it opens in 2023, the 200-key Novotel Alexandria will be the hospitality focal point of the Orouba Skyline, a landmark 400,000 sqm mixed-use project set to be the biggest in Alexandria,  with upscale residential retail business and medical facilities and a high-profile location on Alexandria and the main entrance to the city. The expressway connecting the city to Cairo.

With stand-our features including 1,380 sqm of meeting and event space, the hotel will tap into surging demand for corporate and social events in Egypt’s second largest city.

The striking design-led property will also introduce Alexandria’s visitors and residents to Novotel’s relaxed and lively hospitality concept and is expected to become a preferred destination for business and socialising.

Skyline’s portfolio spans an administrative and business tower, which Dorsch master Architecture one of the top five companies in office designing in the world has worked on designing. SkyHub, and SkyMed a medical tower, in addition to a regional mall.

Novotel Alexandria’s meeting and event space will include a pre-function area, complemented by a specialty restaurant, all-day dining venue and lobby lounge, as well as a 400 sqm wellness facility.

Located 8km from both Alexandria Corniche and the city centre and a short drive from top attractions including Alexandria National Museum, the Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa, Montazah Gardens, Pompey’s Pillar and Qaitbay Fort, the hotel is expected to appeal to domestic and international guests visiting the city for business and leisure.

Orouba Misr are the biggest real estate developers in Alexandria and one of Egypt’s top developers, for the past 25 years Orouba Misr has been a pioneer in development in New Cairo and the Pyramids Plato area as well as the first to establish luxurious residential compounds in Alexandrian as, the Orouba Royal Compound and Sedra. Orouba has expanded its line of business to a partnership with MAF (Carrefour) to establish ten shopping malls all over Egypt, and have has signed an agreement with AAST to build new international schools and colleges within the coming few years, set to be Orouba’s next project.

Alexandria is currently a hotbed of infrastructure development with the Borg Al-Arab Airport expansion project set to more than double its capacity to four million passengers annually by 2022 and a US$1.5 billion metro line under construction.

The Egyptian government has also prioritised tourism development to the coastal destination, earmarking areas for new private beaches and signing agreements with several European countries to attract more tourists all-year-round.

Accor currently operates 25 properties (8,338) and eight Nile cruisers (405 keys) in Egypt and plans to almost double its inventory with 20 new hotels (7,372 keys) in its development pipeline.
